Spring cleaning can be a tedious task, however when approaching our closets we should always bear in mind that ridding ourselves of the unused and dusted creates room for the shiny and new. With fashion month just around the corner, let’s take a look at some of the trends we can be expecting to see on the catwalks this season…
Barefoot Shoes
Now if we were only looking at Berlin, a rise in foot fetish celebration might be a simple explanation as to why we will be seeing more of this trend, however it is most certain we can expect this trend in fashion capitals all around the globe. From Tabis to Balenciaga sock shoes and Schiaparelli’s toe mules: It seems less is more. The trend clearly tends to cater to a more natural feeling for the foot and imitate its original shape in new exciting ways.
Satirical Surrealism
Absurdly noticeable fashion is going to be ever more at the forefront of fashion. Escapism is always a good theme designers like to get inspired by however with an increase in problems surrounding us on the daily, escapism will take the next step and transform into extreme surrealism. We can always looks forward to Schiaparelli, Iris van Herpen and Marina Hörmanseder to deliver some beautiful surprises.
Fashion Fairy Tales
Ruffles, lace, sheers and once again: bows. Escapism is big and if you are not into the crazy surrealism, some softer silhouettes may appeal more to your personal tastes. Anything soft, whimsical and in the shade “Transcendent Pink” – one of WGSN’s trend colours for 2025 – essentially anything that looks like it could be straight out of a Romantasy novel is a right fit. In terms of brands opt for Chloé, Kitschy Couture and Sandy Liang.
Gender-Fluid and Inclusive Designs
The boundaries between genders are more fluid than ever before allowing for even more creative freedom in design. To quote JW Anderson: “I (…) believe that fashion must get to a point where we don’t have to talk about what gender anyone is, where we just see the beauty in people.” 1 Many other designers agree and so it is less a trend, more an overall shift that is already happening in fashion and will gain even more recognition and relevance in the next seasons. One to watch out for is Berlin’s William Fan!
AI And Technology
More and more designers are making increased use of modern technologies including AI. Whether it is Jacquemus collaborating with 3D artist Ian Padgham to create a show-stopping video of the Bambino bag weaving its way through the Parisian traffic or Iris van Herpen, fusing fashion and technology with 3D printed materials and using kinetic principles to create breath-taking moments at the Met with Mona Patel. Be sure to keep an eye out for all the other ways, AI and technology will be woven into future collections and campaigns.
